After its massive trend last year, everyone should now be familiar with the term hygge, a Danish way of life which encourages everyone to enjoy each day as it comes and be happy with the small and simple things. Read more on Hygge here.
It was The Little Book of Hygge, by Miek Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, that took this trend by storm and introduced us to this interesting perspective on the way of life from our Danish friends. Miek is back with a new book this year called The Little Book of Lykke – and this year it’s all about the Lykke (Luu-kah)!
What is Lykke?
Lykke is the Danish word for ‘happy’ or ‘happiness’ and as the Danes are considered to be the happiest nation in the world, us non-Danes can definitely learn a thing or two about happiness from them – they’re obviously doing something right.
Like hygge, I think that everyone should try and incorporate lykke techniques into ones daily life. However, happiness begins with self-awareness and understanding so it’s important to recognise what actually makes us truly happy overall, beyond primitive pleasurable bodily happiness.I do enjoy these little books of insight and it will be very interesting to see what else the Danes will introduce us to.
