Top 5 Benefits of Water

Water makes up around 55-75% the body and is crucial for our survival. I’m a lucky one because I can’t get enough of water – I love the taste (or lack thereof), the way it makes me feel and all of the wonderful benefits drinking it has. I’m so use to my two litres a day that I feel my body is not at full capacity when I don’t drink enough.

I know a lot of people aren’t too fond of drinking water and only drink it when they have to but I have been encouraged to drink it and now I’m doing the same to you! If you’re still not convinced, check out my top 5 health benefits of drinking water:

1. Hydrates your skin
2. Muscle fuel
3. Relieves fatigue
4. Treats headaches and migraines
5. Flushes out toxins

1. Hydrates your skin
For those who would like clearer skin, water is a great way to help control it. Certain toxins often play a part in inflaming the skin, which can cause acne and clogged-up pores. Water helps flush out these toxins reducing the risk of skin problems and ultimately gives you a clearer complexion (of course, this is for normal skin cases – some skin conditions can be more complex).

2. Muscle fuel
Who loves a good workout? Me(eeee)! When sweating away at the gym and flexing those guns, it’s important that your body doesn’t dehydrate and maintains its energy levels. In between sets, try sipping some water to avoid feel lethargic.

3. Relieves fatigue
If your always feeling tired, there is a high chance that you are depriving your body from an adequate amount of water, making you dehydrated. When the body does not have enough water, there is a decrease in your blood volume. When this happens, your heart has to work extra hard to make sure your body is receiving oxygenated blood and that it is being efficiently received by all of your major organs.

4. Treats headaches and migraines
If I have a headache, I down a pint of water because most often than not, it’s because I’m dehydrated. You may notice that you tend to have headaches in the summer (as well as feel fatigued like point 3) and it’s usually because your body is not getting enough hydration from water, which causes negative reactions to your body. My advice is to always carry a bottle of water, especially if you’re in the sun, on the tube or drinking alcohol (those dehydration hangovers are the worst!).

5. Flushes out toxins
Water detoxifies our beautiful bodies and helps flush out the things that shouldn’t be there, primarily through urine and sweat (I’m always satisfied when my pee is pretty much clear – hah!). Drinking water also helps your kidneys function encouraging them to flush out waste in your body. It reduces the likelihood of kidney stones because water dilutes the minerals and salts in this area of the body.

Water is so important and such a special drink that lets us humans survive. Many people in the world are deprived of this privilege so please don’t take it for granted and please mindfully drink every beautiful sip filled with appreciation.
